SOBRE O AUTOR
Henry Miller
Henry Miller nasceu em Brooklyn, nos Estados Unidos da América, a 26 de dezembro de 1891. Em 1930, respondendo a um espírito aventureiro e ao desejo de se dedicar à escrita, partiu para a Europa e fixou-se em Paris. Foi aí que, em 1934, publicou o seu primeiro romance autobiográfico, Trópico de Câncer, a que se seguiu, em 1939, Trópico de Capricórnio, ambos banidos durante quase três décadas nos Estados Unidos. Em 1942, pouco depois de se instalar definitivamente na Califórnia, iniciou a redação da trilogia Rosa-Crucificação, Sexus, Plexus, Nexus, considerada uma das suas obras maiores, onde conjuga reflexão metafísica com um erotismo explícito. Miller foi um dos mais marcantes autores americanos do século xx, cuja insubmissão, quer na vida, quer na literatura, viria a influenciar fortemente a chamada beat generation. Faleceu em casa a 7 de junho de 1980.
