SINOPSE
It's Christmas and Holden Caulfield has just been expelled from yet another school. SOBRE O AUTOR
J. D. Salinger
Escritor norte-americano, nascido em 1919, Jerome David Salinger, foi um símbolo da juventude norte-americana da década de 50, retratando-a e captando a sua linguagem, problemas e experiências. Filho de pai judeu e mãe católica irlandesa, aos dezoito anos teve a oportunidade de passar 5 meses na Europa. Quando regressou aos Estado Unidos, ingressou na Universidade de Nova Iorque e em 1939 inscreveu-se na disciplina de contos na Columbia University, cujo professor era Whit Burnett, fundador da revista Story Magazine.
Combateu na Segunda Guerra Mundial e esteve envolvido na invasão da Normandia.
Salinger é um dos grandes clássicos da literatura norte-americana sendo "À Espera no Centeio", o seu livro mais conhecido e aquele que melhor revela a vida da rica burguesia nova-iorquina, o vazio social e os falsos valores encontrados pelos jovens da época. O seu realismo irónico encontra-se também em obras como "Nine Stories" (1953), "Franny and Zooey" (1961), "Raise High the Roof Beam"," Carpenters" (1963) e "For Esmé - With Love and Squalor" (1986). É também autor de inúmeros contos, muitos deles publicados nas prestigiadas revistas "Esquire" e "New Yorker".
