Ivan Turguéniev

Ivan Turgueniev nasceu em Orel, no Império Russo, a 9 de novembro de 1818. A sua obra-prima, Pais e Filhos, é considerada uma das grandes marcas do século XIX. Aos 25 anos, com a publicação de Parasha obteve, pela primeira vez, a atenção da crítica. Com os romances Rudin, Gnedo, Dvorianskoe e Nakanune, deixa a sua marca literária com o mérito de ter sido o primeiro escritor russo com reconhecimento considerável na Europa Ocidental. É também conhecido como o inventor do termo nihilista, que aplicou ao protagonista do romance Ottsy I Deti e que acabou por chegar aos nossos dias com o significado de ausência de sentido, finalidade ou resposta, aplicado a áreas tão diversas como a arte, as ciências humanas, a literatura, a ética ou a moral. Em 1862, na sequência da publicação de Ottsy I Deti e da controvérsia à sua volta gerada, abandona a Rússia e, após passagens pela Alemanha e Inglaterra, estabelece-se em Bougival, arredores de Paris, onde acabaria por morrer a 3 de setembro de 1883.
