Bridgerton: The Duke And I (Bridgertons Book 1)

The book tells the story of two young people who both seek different things but happen to be caught on the same path. Although there are some frustrating moments throughout the reading, the writing is enriching and the characters captivating, so the plot does not disappoint. a language that attracts any reader and a story that makes us think about our own happiness and what we really want. More than that, the entire book lets us glimpse the development of a relationship based on support and love.

I found it rather boring to read and quite some serious problems within it. Besides not being an engaging reading experience, Daphne is an incredibly imature character, too full of herself and dwelling solely on her own needs. She doesn´t know or show any interest in communicating properly and is incapable of respect Simon´s boundaries. Somewhere in the middle of the book she normalised taking sexual advantage of her drunk uncouscous husband. She forces him to give her a child. She was abusive, toxic and unhealthy while still being portrayed as a nice young girl. The happy ending further normalised her abuse. I see a lot of people enfatuated with these novels but let´s not put our critical thinking skills on the side.

O que não significa que não tenha gostado, não é um livro perfeito mas estive entretida enquanto o lia e estou entusiasmada para ler os próximos e ter uma perspetiva nova e mais aprofundada sobre os personagens que a série não me permite.

Comecei pela série e a mesma despertou-me a curiosidade para começar esta colecção. Prende-nos do início ao fim e com pormenores que a série não mostra. A minha compra na versão em inglês aproxima-me mais do ´´real´´, assim como aprendo e melhoro o meu inglês.

Fiquei arrebatada logo com o primeiro livro. A história é coerente e de leitura fácil. Julia Quinn é capaz de nos prender desde a primeira até à última página. Adorei a história de Daphne e Simon. Um bom começo para uma bela série de livros.

O primeiro livro da Julia Quinn da série Bridgerton. Daphne é a primeira de oito irmãos a apaixonar-se e a casar, mas não sem antes conceber um esquema com o Duke de Hastings para enganarem toda a alta sociedade londrina, que os leva a apaixonarem-se. A relação entre os dois vai progressivamente sanando o lado sombrio e as profundas mágoas do Duke, que recusava casar-se e ter filhos por ódio ao próprio pai. Daphne, por sua vez, faz de tudo (literalmente) para engravidar e construir uma família, mesmo que isso implique seduzir o marido embriagado. Um equilíbrio de romance, sagacidade, humor e erotismo.

Li o livro após ter visto a série e agora sim percebo pequenos apontamentos que na altura não liguei! Muito bom!
