SOBRE O AUTOR
Susanna Clarke
Susanna Clarke nasceu em Nottingham, em 1959, filha mais velha de um pastor metodista. Passou uma infância repartida entre o Norte de Inglaterra e a Escócia, tendo frequentado o Colégio de Santa Hilda, em Oxford.
Depois de, em 1990, ter estado em Turim (Itália) a ensinar inglês aos executivos da Fiat e, no ano seguinte, em Bilbau (Espanha), regressou a Inglaterra, onde, em County Durham, numa casa com vista para o mar do Norte, começou a trabalhar em Jonathan Strange e o Sr. Norrell, uma ficção em que a autora combina fantasia para adultos com romance histórico de costumes e sátira social, fazendo lembrar, simultaneamente, Jane Austen e Philip Pullman. Trata-se, na opinião de um crítico de The Washington Post, de um romance "sumptuoso e original", que, além do mais, serviu para revelar - The Guardian o disse - uma escritora "admiravelmente criativa e encantadora", capaz de "inventar elegantes metáforas".
Susanna Clarke trabalhou no mundo editorial, designadamente no catálogo culinário da Simon Schuster, em Cambridge. Publicou sete contos e novelas, em antologias norte-americanas, uma das quais - The Fairy Widower - foi nomeada, em 2001, para o Prémio World Fantasy. Vive actualmente em Cambrige.
