Stig Dagerman

Uma inquietação visceral assombrou a vida de Stig Dagerman (1923-1954), saudado precocemente como um «Rimbaud do Norte», um «Camus sueco» e um jovem prodígio das letras nórdicas. Esta insidiosa angústia assolava-o desde a sua Älvkarleby natal, onde a mãe o abandonara em tenra idade, acompanhou-o nos meios anarquistas de Estocolmo, na intensa atividade de jornalista, e culminaria no seu suicídio aos 31 anos. Autor de culto, tido por símbolo de uma desiludida geração do pós-guerra, escreveu em quatro anos toda a sua obra, pontuada pelo desespero de Franz Kafka e influenciada por William Faulkner, na qual se destacam A Serpente (1945), A Ilha dos Condenados (1946), Outono Alemão (1947) e Jogos da Noite (1948). Legou-nos um exemplo de lucidez e resistência à mentira, como alicerce e esteio da ação humana, e algumas das mais belas páginas sobre a falsidade das relações humanas e a angústia e a ira que as movem.
