ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Dylan Thomas

Dylan Thomas was born in Swansea, Wales, on October 27, 1914. At the age of seventeen he began working as a journalist for... South Wales Evening Post and shortly afterwards he moved to London, where he quickly established himself as one of the most important lyric poets of his generation. From 1934 onwards he published several books of poetry, culminating in the publication of his... Collected Poems in 1952. Throughout his life he also wrote short stories, his most famous book being his autobiography. Portrait of the Artist as a Young Dog, from 1940. He was the author of screenplays for films and radio programs, including the radio play Under Milk WoodBetween 1950 and 1953 he made four visits to the United States, following invitations to give lectures. On November 9, 1953, shortly after his thirty-ninth birthday, with his health weakened by alcoholism, he died in his hotel room in New York.
