ABOUT THE AUTHOR

W. S. Merwin

William Stanley Merwin was an American author born on September 20, 1927, in New York City. One of the most important English-language poets of our time, Merwin was also an excellent translator, environmentalist, and anti-war activist. Twice named Poet Laureate of the United States, he won the National Book Award and twice the Pulitzer Prize. In 1976, he moved to Hawaii, where he fought for the preservation of the rainforest. He died there on March 15, 2019.
