ABOUT THE AUTHOR

E. C. Bentley

Edmund Clerihew Bentley was born in London in 1875. He worked as a journalist for several publications and in 1905 published his first volume of poems. Trent's Last Case It emerged in 1913 and achieved immediate success, surprising readers with a labyrinthine and captivating plot that earned praise from figures such as Dorothy L. Sayers and cemented Bentley's name in the history of mystery literature. Encouraged by the positive reception of this novel, which would be adapted for film three times, E. C. Bentley published the sequel in 1936. Trent's ReturnIn that same year, and until 1949, he assumed the presidency of the Detection Club, having been very close to its first president, the writer G. K. Chesterton. He died in London in 1956.
