ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Brian May

Brian May is one of the most iconic and influential guitarists in rock history, known primarily as a member of the iconic band Queen. Born on July 19, 1947, in London, England, May is widely recognized for his unique guitar skills, his creative contribution to Queen's music, and his distinctive voice as a songwriter and instrumentalist.

Before founding Queen with Freddie Mercury, Roger Taylor and John Deacon in the 70s, Brian May was a physics student at the Imperial University of London, and it was in his youth that he began to develop a passion for the guitar. He built his famous guitar, called the "Red Special", with recycled parts, which gave it a unique sound and became one of his biggest trademarks. His innovative approach to the electric guitar, combining techniques such as the use of delay and vibrato, helped define Queen's sound.

With Queen, May became one of the band's creative pillars, contributing some of the most iconic songs in rock history, such as "We Will Rock You", "Tie Your Mother Down", "I Want It All" and "Stone Cold Crazy". His skill as a songwriter and guitarist helped define the band's distinctive sound, which blended heavy rock, pop, opera, and classical music. Queen became one of the most successful and innovative bands in the world, and May, as part of that success, solidified his place as a guitar legend.

In addition to his work with Queen, Brian May has also had a solo career and has collaborated with several artists. His solo album Back to the Light (1992) featured a more personal and introspective sound, with influences from rock and classical music. May has also been involved in philanthropic projects and environmental causes, especially with regard to the conservation of animal species, and holds a doctorate in astrophysics, an area in which she has been publicly involved.

After Freddie Mercury's death in 1991, May continued to be part of Queen along with Roger Taylor, and later, with the collaboration of Adam Lambert, touring as "Queen + Adam Lambert". His skill as a guitarist, songwriter, and musician continues to be a major influence on artists around the world, and his work with Queen remains a timeless reference in rock history.

Brian May is undoubtedly one of the most respected figures in world music, being remembered not only for his monumental contribution to rock but also for his unique and innovative approach to the guitar, which helped define the sound and legacy of one of the greatest bands in history.
