REVIEWS
Brilliant in every aspect
Carolina Gonçalves
The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms succeeds in every aspect a book should. Yeine, its protagonist, is such a full character: full of desires and needs, kindness and pettiness, successes and failures. The people around her are just as raw and deep and complex, from her allies to her enemies to those that are neither. At the beginning of the novel, Yeine is taken from her simple life in a distante province and thrown into the tangled web of palace intrigue. As she learns how to navigate court, the reader begins to understand the laws as well as the unspoken rules at the same time she does. The best part is the worldbuilding. This is such a rich world with a past full of stories and gods and a diverse geography that breaks the land into many peoples and many cultures. We don’t get to see the entire world, but we feel like it’s truly out there, and it plays a vital role in the plot. This is certainly a world I want to come back to full of people I want to meet again.
