N. K. Jemisin é uma autora relativamente recente, que consegue, contudo, marcar a sua posição relativamente a outros autores já estabelecidos. Este livro é uma mistura de fantasia, ficção científica, distopia e pós-apocalíptico. Por vezes nota-se que algumas personagens ou detalhes do mundo, precisavam de ser mais desenvolvidos, mas talvez isso aconteça num dos próximos volumes. Devido a este pormenor, o que mais me atraiu durante a leitura, foi o próprio mundo e não diretamente as personagens. Todo o enredo fica em aberto, naturalmente, visto ser o primeiro volume de uma trilogia.

I'm not really into sci-fi fantasy, but this book is very readable and relates to many urgent subjects nowadays: misogyny, racism, social hierarchy and so on. So, whether you're looking for an easy book to read or you're into more realia stuff, you should give this book a go because it can be analyzed both ways. At the very least, I am extremely intrigued to read the rest of trilogy.
