ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Ralph Waldo Emerson

Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-1882) was an American philosopher, poet, and lecturer. A leading figure in the American transcendentalist movement of the mid-19th century, his fame during his lifetime was overwhelming, drawing crowds to his lectures. His transcendental idealism emphasized self-reliance, personal culture, and individual expression. In Europe, he was decisive for the thought of Nietzsche, who revisited themes such as power, destiny, poetry, and history, and the critique of Christianity.
