ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Edward Abbey

Edward Abbey (1927-1989) set off in the 1940s to explore the American West, where he fell in love with the vast desert landscapes after being expelled from the army for various acts of insolence. He studied Philosophy and Literature at the University of New Mexico, delving into the theme of anarchy and, a born rebel, had his name placed on FBI watch lists. His distrust of institutions was only surpassed by his love for untouched corners of the world, immortalized in the book... Desert Solitaire (1968), often compared to Walden. A ranger and fiery orator, he made provocation a weapon, bequeathed us a fertile literary work dedicated to wilderness, and defended the right of us all to be grains of sand – or wrenches – in the machine. He lies eternally in an unknown location in the Arizona desert.
