Peplum

Christian Hincker, known as Blutch, was born in Strasbourg in 1967 and graduated in his hometown with a degree in decorative arts. He published his first comics in magazines such as Fluide glacial, Lapin, and in the magazine (A Suivre). after a few loose albums, Blutch will emancipate himself from the humorous register by adapting Petronius' Satyricon. This was followed by several albums with very varied themes, from the autobiographical record, such as Le Petit Christian, in which he portrayed the memories of his childhood in Alsace, to the western, with Rancho Bravo (with a script by Jean-Louis Capron). In 2000, his book Blatch was awarded the Alph-Art Humor at the Angoulême festival, and two years later Vitesse moderne won the international Töpffer prize, awarded by the city of Geneva. He then published very different albums, always surprising, such as an episode of Dungeon Monsters, the humorous fantasy epic by Joann Sfar and Lewis Trondheim, or books such as Total Jazz, C'tait le Bonheur, La Volupté, and many others.
In 2009, he won the Angoulême Grand Prix. This prize is followed by a series of works that we could describe as heterogeneous to say the least: Pour en finir avec le cinema, Lune l'envers, Vue sur le lac, and others. In 2019, Blutch, a resident of Strasbourg, is triply honored by his city, where his work is the subject of several exhibitions in the city's main museums (Tomi Ungerer Museum, Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, and the Central Media Library).
In 2020, Blutch reveals another facet of his creative universe with Mais où est Kiki?, an album from the Tif et Tondu series, written by his brother Robber. This unexpected album impresses critics and the general public. And in 2023, it will delight fans of the "man who shoots faster than his shadow", with this The Untamed, a subtle and hilarious adventure from the Lucky Luke collection seen by...
In addition to his work in comics, Blutch illustrates works for children, exploring numerous techniques at the service of very diverse graphic universes, and is also, occasionally, an illustrator of cinema (he created three posters for Alain Resnais) and music (we owe him the posters for the Banlieues bleues jazz festival).
