ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Frédéric Mistral

Nobel Prize in Literature 1904

French writer of Occitan expression (1830-1914), cultivated the study of the Provençal language and traditions. He began the process of writing the poem. Mireille (Mireio) in 1851 and the publication date of 1875 Les Îles d'or ( Lis Isclo d'or), considered his best collection of poems. The quality of these works will be equaled in The Poem of the Rhône ( Lou Pouèmo dou Rose ), from 1897. In the meantime, he had edited a lexicon of the Occitan language, Lou Tresor dou felibrige (1878), and he also devoted part of his time to founding the museum in Arles. His Memoirs (1906) revealed his mastery as a prose writer. He received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1904, along with José Echegaray.
