PRÉMIO NOBEL DA LITERATURA 1904

Escritor francês de expressão occitana (1830-1914), cultivou o estudo da língua e das tradições provençais. Iniciou o processo de escrita do poema Mireille (Miréio) em 1851 e de 1875 data a publicação de Les Îles d'or ( Lis Isclo d'or), considerada a sua melhor coletânea de poemas. A qualidade destes trabalhos será igualada em Le Poème du Rhône ( Lou Pouèmo dou Rose ), de 1897. Entretanto, editara um léxico da língua de oc, Lou Tresor dou felibrige (1878), vindo a consagrar ainda parte do seu tempo à fundação do museu de Arles. As suas Memórias (1906) revelaram a sua mestria como prosador. Recebeu o Prémio Nobel da Literatura em 1904, juntamente com José Echegaray.
