ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Amartya Sen

Amartya Sen was born in 1933 in Santiniketan, an Indian university town. It is in Dhaka, now the capital of Bangladesh, that his family origins are located and it was there that he spent most of his childhood and began his formal education. After alternating his interests between Sanskrit, mathematics and physics, he would eventually discover the fascination of economics.
Sen is today one of the world's most notable thinkers, a reference for the discussion of topics such as globalization, economic liberalism, terrorism or gender inequality.
His research work on the mechanisms of hunger and poverty, human development, the welfare state and political liberalism earned him the Nobel Prize in Economics in 1998.
Until 2004 he held the position of Master at Trinity College, Cambridge, and is currently a professor at Harvard University.
