ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Helen Dunmore

Helen Dunmore was born in Yorkshire, England, in 1952.
He studied English Language and Literature at the University of York. He taught English in Finland and later at various universities in the United Kingdom. He also contributed as a literary critic to British newspapers. He is also a member of the Royal Society of Literature.
He began by writing poetry ("Bestiary," among others) and some short stories ("Love of Fat Men"), but it was only in the late 1980s that he ventured into novels. His notable works include "A Spell of Winter," "Talking to the Dead," "House of Orphans," and "The Siege" (the latter nominated for the Whitbread Novel Award and the Orange Prize for Fiction).
