This book is the outcome of a European Strategic Partnership dedicated to understanding the complexities of crises, whether they be cultural, linguistic, political, social, religious, or economic.

NEW FACES. Facing Europe in Crisis: Shakespeare’s World and Present Challenges, an Erasmus+ Key Action 2 fostering Cooperation for Innovation and the Exchange of Good Practices, was coordinated by Université Paul-Valéry Montpellier 3 in France and formed by Freie Universität Berlin in Germany, Universiteit Utrecht in the Netherlands, Univerzita Karlova v Praze in the Czech Republic, Universytet Jagiellonski in Poland, Szegedi Tudományegyetem - University of Szeged in Hungary, Universidad de Murcia in Spain, Universidade do Porto in Portugal, and Università degli Studi di Ferrara in Italy.1

The programme preceded the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine, two crises that have had an impact on the ways Shakespeare has been dealt with, performed on stage and represented on screen since 2020.
