ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Cláudio Carneiro

He was born in Chacim, in the municipality of Macedo de Cavaleiros, on May 8, 1931. He lived there until he was 30 years old, except for his military service. From childhood, he had to divide his time between tending calves and other farm work.
The eldest of seven siblings (five boys and two girls), he shared with them the joy of rural life. A shepherd and cattle driver, he was also a farmer. He slept in the fields and learned to listen to the secrets of Mother Earth.
Due to lack of time, he did not have full availability for primary education. He finished it as an adult, while serving in the Regimental School in Bragança. A dreamer and fearless, he visited the distant lands of Goa (1955). Here he contributes to newspapers. Herald and DailyHe explored the eastern limits of the Empire. He embarked in Mormugão to return to his homeland (May 23, 1957).
In April 1961, he settled in Lisbon, summoned by General Paulo Bénard Guedes, the penultimate Governor of the Portuguese State of India, in whose service he served as a bodyguard, having completed his corporal training in Old Goa and been promoted to first corporal.

He is now making up for the time he lacked as a child to study. He completes the General Course at the Lyceums and attends the Law Course, which he does not finish. At the Lyceum, in the former 7th year of the Lyceum, he had as his teacher, in Portuguese and French, Dr. Altino Moreira Cardoso, a fellow countryman, a native of Loureiro – Peso da Régua, writer, composer, journalist, computer scientist… and, the following year, a colleague at the Faculty of Law in Lisbon. He collaborated with and was the Administrator of the newspaper Poets & Troubadours, wrote in magazines Mosaics, Metropolis News, Zurich Newsin the magazine The Bi-Tó-Rô, from the Cultural and Recreational Association of Soutelo – Mogadouro, of which he was a member, a member of Transit – Cooperative of Breeders and Producers of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro – Porto, partner of Balsamão Cultural Center Chacim, are you registered for...? Vila-Realense Literary Society is a partner of Academy of Letters of Trás-os-Montes, Bragança and was part of its governing bodies from June 2015 to 2017.

He has written for several regional newspapers – Amadora/Sintra, Voice of Yours Mirandela, The Voice of the Northeast – Bragança, The Coura – Paredes de Coura, News from the House of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro From Lisbon, where he was a member of the Board of Directors of the Regional House and a Regional Councilor, representing his municipality, Macedo de Cavaleiros, he wrote for and was a partner in the magazine. Unearta- Union of Writers and Artists from Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro, and wrote for the Brigantia Magazine.
It is registered in S.P.A - Portuguese Society of Authors with number 18797, and it appears in Dictionary of the Most Illustrious People from Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro, by J. Barroso da Fonte – volume II, 2001 and in Bibliography of the Bragança District , by Hirondino Fernandes - volume II, C, 2012.

He wrote and published: Relics of the Northeastern Trás-os-Montes region – poems; The Bornes Chacim and Balsamão mountain range – poems, author's edition; Through the Northeast of Trás-os-Montes – short stories; Unforgettable Experiences – biographical novel, published by Amadora Sintra; Reminiscences of Oblivion – Short Stories and Travels, published by Chiado Editora. The Priest Adriano Botelho – novel, published by Chiado Editora, The Awakening of the Portuguese Soul in sonnets, published by Chiado Editora. He is the co-author of two anthologies – Poets Forever, III and IV volumes, 2002 and 2003, by J. Barroso da Fonte.
