George Steiner

George Steiner is considered a 20th-century heir to Socrates. Born in Paris in 1929, she moved with her family to New York in the early 1940s to escape Nazism. She earned her degree in Literature from the University of Chicago in 1948. In 1950, she received her master's degree from Harvard University, where she received her... Bell Prize in American LiteratureFrom 1950 to 1952, he was a Cecil Rhodes Foundation fellow at the University of Oxford, where he received his doctorate. He joined the editorial staff of The economist, in London, later becoming a member of Institute for Advanced Studies, in Princeton. In 1959, he received the prize O. Henry Short StoryHe was a professor of English and Comparative Literature at the University of Geneva from 1974 to 1994 and a member of...
