ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Dias de Melo

Dias de Melo nasceu na freguesia da Calheta de Nesquim, ilha do Pico. Antes do 25 de Abril, foi perseguido pela PIDE e teve que abandonar a ilha de São Miguel, onde residia e era professor efectivo, estabelecendo-se em Lisboa. Na capital, começou a colaborar com o Diário de Notícias e o Diário de Lisboa, continuando sempre a leccionar. Regressou alguns anos mais tarde aos Açores, onde reside actualmente. Foi homenageado diversas vezes, tanto em Portugal como no estrangeiro, tendo sido condecorado com a Ordem do Infante pelo Presidente Mário Soares. O seu romance "Pedras Negras" está já traduzido em Inglês e Japonês.
