Tomi Ungerer

Tomi Ungerer (Strasbourg, 1931 - Ireland, 2019). His early sketches, with warlike overtones, reflected his opposition to war and fascism. In 1956 he emigrated to New York, where he began writing children's books that were very successful. He published in newspapers and magazines as important as... The New Yorkera Esquirea Life Show or a FortuneAt the height of his career during the 1960s, Ungerer channeled his reaction against the hypocrisy and superficiality of American society into his work. He then moved to a farm in Canada and, in the late 1970s, settled in Ireland with his family. His output, spanning 40 years of creation, is estimated at between 30,000 and 40,000 works in different styles, and more than 120 books. Among other distinctions, he received the Gold Medal of the Society of Illustrators and the Hans Christian Andersen Award in 1998.
