ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Rex Stout

Rex Stout was born on December 1, 1886, in the American city of Noblesville, Indiana. After a brief stint at the University of Kansas, he enlisted in the Navy in 1906 and served for two years aboard the yacht... MayflowerHe served as a second lieutenant under President Roosevelt. In 1916, he created a school banking system that would be implemented in over four hundred educational establishments, guaranteeing him comfortable profits, but in 1927 he abandoned the business and devoted himself entirely to writing. He published three novels, which received favorable reviews, but it was with his first crime novel that he achieved widespread public recognition. Deadly Sting She emerged in 1934, and with her came the character of Nero Wolfe, an eccentric detective, lover of good food and beautiful orchids, who, along with his young assistant Archie Goodwin, would star in dozens of stories. In 1959, Rex Stout received the Grand Master distinction from the Mystery Writers of America. She died on October 27, 1975, in Danbury, Connecticut, about a month after the publication of her last novel. A Family Affair.
