ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Papa Francisco

Jorge Mario Bergoglio was born in Buenos Aires in 1936, into a family of Italian origin, and graduated in Chemistry.
At the age of 22, he began his novitiate in the Society of Jesus, first in Chile and then in Buenos Aires, where, in 1963, he completed his philosophy studies.
In 2013 he was elected Pope of the Catholic Church and Head of State of the Vatican with the name Francis I, following the abdication of Pope Benedict XVI.
He was the first pope born on the American continent, the first non-European pontiff in over 1200 years, and also the first Jesuit pope in history.
He passed away on April 21, 2025, at the Casa Santa Marta in Vatican City.
