ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Audre Lorde

Audre Lorde, (1934-1992), figura maior do feminismo negro, foi uma eminente poeta e pensadora norte-americana. Precursora da teoria interseccional e da crítica decolonial, afirmava a sua identidade multifacetada apresentando-se publicamente como «mulher negra, lésbica, mãe, guerreira, poeta». Dedicou a vida a combater o racismo, o sexismo, a homofobia e a invisibilidade. Bibliotecária, professora de Inglês, forjou alianças significativas e trabalhou ativamente, deixando-nos algumas das mais importantes obras para o desenvolvimento da teoria feminista contemporânea. Foi distinguida com doutoramentos honoris causa de várias faculdades, tendo sido ainda Poeta Laureada do Estado de Nova Iorque entre 1991 e 1993. Em 2020, foi postumamente homenageada, figurando no American Poets Corner da Catedral de São João, o Divino, em Nova Iorque.
