Steven Pressfield

Steven Pressfield formou-se na Duke University em 1965. No ano seguinte alistou-se nos Marines. Foi publicitário, professor, condutor de pesados, barman, assistente num hospício e argumentista. A sua luta para se sustentar enquanto autor levou-o à pobreza extrema e chegou mesmo a viver na sua carrinha. Publicou o seu primeiro livro vinte anos depois de se formar, The Legend of Bagger Vance, que seria adaptado ao cinema por Robert Redford, tendo como protagonistas Will Smith, Charlize Theron e Matt Damon. O seu segundo romance, Gates of Fire, acerca dos espartanos e da Batalha de Termópilas, é ensinado na Academia Militar Americana, na Academia Naval Americana e no centro de formação do Marine Corps, em Quantico. Escreveu outros bestsellers históricos, muitos dos quais de leitura recomendada em cursos sobre a Grécia clássica. É cidadão honorário de Esparta.
