ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Lydia Cacho
Nascida no México em 1963, é uma das mais famosas jornalistas
de investigação de todo o mundo. Depois de deixar a
Universidade de Sorbonne, e influenciada pelo ativismo que
herdou da mãe (psicóloga feminista de ascendência francesa e
portuguesa), abraçou a carreira de repórter.
Há mais de duas décadas que a sua voz incómoda e audaz faz
tremer os poderes instituídos em defesa das mulheres,
denunciando a violência e a exploração sexuais. Da sua obra,
composta por nove títulos, destacam-se Los Demonios del Edén
(2005), que a levou a ser presa e torturada por revelar uma rede
de pedofilia de empresários e políticos mexicanos, e Escravas do
Poder, o seu trabalho mais recente. Trabalha como consultora
especialista em temas de direitos humanos e saúde das mulheres
no Fundo de Desenvolvimento das Nações Unidas para a Mulher
(UNIFEM).
Tem sido reconhecida com inúmeros galardões dos quatro cantos
do mundo: saliente-se o Prémio Nacional de Jornalismo do
México, o Prémio Ginetta Sagan da Amnistia Internacional em
nome dos Direitos das Mulheres e das Crianças (2007), o Prémio
Mundial UNESCO/Guillermo Cano da Liberdade de Imprensa
(2008), a Medalha Wallenberg (2009), Heroína da Liberdade de

Legião de Honra da República Francesa (2013).
Em 2011, venceu com Roberto Saviano o Prémio Olof Palme, pelo
combate de ambos contra a insegurança e a injustiça no mundo.
