Gary Wright looks back at growing up in an East Texas town and his ascent to business success as a black man in this autobiography.
He describes how he and his two brothers often explored the land his great grandparents purchased in the late 1800s and early 1900s for less than a dollar an acre - to growing up in a household where his parents seemed to have verbal altercations.
In looking back at his life, he shares powerful lessons, such as:
• Oftentimes you think things are not so great in your own life until you witness what others go through.
• Revisiting childhood memories can set your trajectory for your future.
• Find and spend time doing the things that you love with people you love.

He also shares some wisdom from his dad, who even with his shortcomings, taught him about life as a black man and marriage. Eventually, he witnessed his dad mature and embrace his mother with more love and kindness before her sudden death in 1999.
