Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Robert Graves

Robert Graves nasceu em 1895 em Wimbledon, filho do escritor irlandês Alfred Perceval Graves. Foi professor de Literatura Inglesa na universidade do Cairo em 1926 e eleito professor de Poesia em Oxford no ano 1961, mas vivia da escrita e ficou conhecido pelas suas perspectivas nada ortodoxas. A sua principal vocação foi a poesia, mas também escreveu obras de ficção e não ficção, sobretudo romances históricos, como A Filha de Homero, Eu, Cláudio ou Rei Jesus. Dos seus livros ensaísticos destacam-se A Deusa Branca, que apresenta uma nova perspectiva do impulso poético, a compilação do primeiro dicionário moderno de mitologia grega, Os Mitos Gregos, e a sua célebre autobiografia, Goodbye to All That. Em 1971 tornou-se Fellow do St. John’s College, Oxford. Morreu em Dezembro de 1985 em Maiorca, onde morava desde 1929. A sua editora britânica, a Penguin, chamou-lhe «o maior poeta do amor desde Donne.
