ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Joseph Heller

Joseph Heller, born in Brooklyn in 1923, is considered one of the most important writers in American literature. In 1961, he published Catch-22, inspired by his experience during World War II - he joined the US Air Force and at the age of twenty was sent to Italy, where he flew 60 combat missions in a B-25 bomber.
He is also the author of novels such as Good as Gold, God Knows, Picture This, Closing Time (the sequel to Catch-22), and Portrait of an Artist as an Old Man. He died in December 1999. Catch-22 was an international bestseller and is a reference work of literature, appearing on all lists of books to be read.
