The German-Jewish nurse Resi Weglein miraculously survived three years in the Theresienstadt concentration camp from 1942 to 1945. Later, having been allowed to return home, she wrote her memoirs. They were published in German in 1988, accompanied by two local historians' deep analysis of the history of antisemitism in Ulm, where Resi originated from, and in Germany at large. The English translation presents an astounding eyewitness account and an excellent study of why antisemitism emerged in the 19th century and resulted in the Holocaust hundred years later. This translation is a powerful and important dedication to the Weglein family and serves as a milestone in the study of the Holocaust because it is one of the most moving eyewitness accounts, particularly by a nurse who personally observed and experienced all the horror and yet maintained her own humanity.
