ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Mia Couto

Mia Couto was born in Beira, Mozambique, in 1955. He was a journalist and teacher, and is currently a biologist and writer. His work has been translated into several languages.
Among other awards and distinctions (most notably the nomination by a jury created for that purpose by the Zimbabwe International Book Fair, of Sleepwalking Land (As one of the twelve best African books of the 20th century), he was awarded, for his already vast body of work, the Vergílio Ferreira Prize in 1999 and the Latin Union Prize for Romance Literatures in 2007. Also in 2007, Mia was awarded the Passo Fundo Zaffari & Bourbon Literature Prize for his novel. The Other Foot of the Mermaid. Jerusalem It was considered one of the 20 most important fiction books of the French literary "rentrée" by a jury from the radio station. France Culture and from the magazine TeleramaIn 2011 he won the Eduardo Lourenço Prize, which recognizes Mia Couto's significant contribution to the development of the Portuguese language. In 2013 he was awarded the Camões Prize and the American Prize. NeustadtIn 2015 he was a finalist for The Man Booker Prize.
Your book Compendium for Unearthing Clouds won the Branquinho da Fonseca Grand Prize for Short Stories APE | Cascais City Council | D. Luís I Foundation, 2023.
In 2024, it won the Guadalajara International Book Fair Award (Mexico).
