ABOUT THE AUTHOR

John Stott

Considerado uma das mais expressivas vozes da Igreja Evangélica contemporânea, o inglês John Stott nasceu em 27 de abril de 1921. Foi um agnóstico até 1939, quando ouviu uma mensagem do reverendo Eric Nash e se converteu ao cristianismo evangélico.

Estudou Línguas Modernas na Faculdade Trinity, de Cambridge. Foi ordenado pela Igreja Anglicana em 1945, e iniciou suas atividades como sacerdote na Igreja All Souls, em Langham Place. Lá continuou até se tornar pastor emérito, em 1975. Foi capelão da coroa britânica de 1959 a 1991.

Stott tornou-se ainda mais conhecido depois do Congresso de Lausanne, em 1974, quando se destacou na defesa do conceito de Evangelho Integral - uma abordagem cristã mais ampla, abrangendo a promoção do Reino de Deus não apenas na dimensão espiritual, mas também na transformação da sociedade a partir da ética e dos valores cristãos.

Em 1982, fundou o London Institute for Contemporary Christianity, do qual hoje é presidente honorário. Escreveu cerca de 40 livros, entre os quais Ouça o Espírito, ouça o mundo (ABU), A cruz de Cristo (Vida) e Por que sou cristão (Ultimato).
