Escritor francês (1828-1905), foi o criador do romance de antecipação científica. Celebrizou-se com A Volta ao Mundo em Oitenta Dias (1873), Cinco Semanas em Balão (1863), Viagem ao Centro da Terra (1864), Da Terra à Lua (1865), Vinte Mil Léguas Submarinas (1870) e A Ilha Misteriosa (1874). Previu acontecimentos como a viagem à lua, o aparecimento do submarino e da televisão. As obras de Verne foram mais tarde adaptadas por Walt Disney.
