Paralelamente ao fotojornalismo, Philippe Graton esteve desde sempre ligado às aventuras de Michel Vaillant: primeiro colaborando com o pai nas pesquisas e, depois, como editor.
Assina o seu primeiro argumento em 1994 com La Piste de Jade e cria, em 1995, a colecção Les Dossiers Michel Vaillant. Desde então conduz tenazmente os destinos do campeão e zela pela coerência editorial da obra criada pelo seu pai. Em 2012, após uma profunda reflexão sobre a personagem, Philippe Graton dá início a uma nova temporada da série Michel Vaillant.
