Dénis Lapière nasceu em 1958 em Namur, começou a estudar sociologia depois de ter experimentado a emoção das corridas de automóveis. Em meados da década de 1980, foi um dos fundadores da livraria Tropica BD em Charleroi, que se tornou ponto de encontro de muitos cartoonistas. Ao entrar em contacto com eles, Lapière começou a escrever roteiros, que aos poucos foram ganhando espaço no cenário editorial. Começou no Le Journal de Spirou contando contos, depois publicou seu primeiro álbum em 1987: Mauro Caldi com Michel Constant nas Éditions du Miroir. Hoje, com quase cento e cinquenta álbuns no seu currículo (incluindo cerca de uma centena das Éditions Dupuis), Denis Lapière é um dos mais talentosos argumentistas da atualidade Em 2020, Lapière publicou com Dany um novo Aire libre: Um homem que passa. Um álbum que permanecerá em todas as boas bibliotecas.
