Mário Contumélias nasceu em Setúbal. Aos 14 anos migrou para Lisboa. É autor de 29 livros, distribuídos pelas disciplinas de Poesia, Literatura Infantil, Romance, Jornalismo Cívico/Sociologia. É também autor de canções e, neste campo, pai de "O Areias" e "Visitas", duas canções muito populares que atravessam gerações. Licenciado em Antropologia Social e doutorado em Sociologia da Comunicação, da Cultura e da Educação, foi professor universitário e investigador, com vários artigos publicados. Como jornalista, chefiou Redações e coordenou, durante cerca de duas décadas, o Curso de Formação Geral em Jornalismo, do Cenjor. Foi ainda empresário, gestor e consultor de comunicação de instituições portuguesas e internacionais. Faleceu em Lisboa a 13 de abril de 2017.
