Manuel Pinheiro Chagas

Manuel Pinheiro Chagas (1842-1895) nasceu em Lisboa. Jornalista, romancista e historiador, escreveu para teatro, assinou crítica literária e foi também tradutor de Alexandre Dumas e Júlio Verne, entre outros. Na área da política, notabilizou-se como orador e exerceu os cargos de deputado e de ministro da Marinha. Professor no Curso Superior de Letras, assinou, em 1880, a História Alegre de Portugal, que Artur Correia adaptou, quase um século depois, a banda desenhada.
