Laura Caldeira é Investigadora Coordenadora e Diretora do Departamento de Geotecnia do Laboratório Nacional de Engenharia Civil e Professora Catedrática Convidada do Instituto Superior Técnico (IST). Tem desenvolvido a sua principal atividade no âmbito da investigação, da gestão do risco e do controlo de segurança de barragens de aterro. É membro da Comissão de Segurança de Barragens e da Comissão para a Revisão da Legislação sobre Segurança de Barragens.
