José Augusto Cardoso Bernardes (n. 1958) é Professor na Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Coimbra onde tem sobretudo regido cadeiras no âmbito da Literatura Portuguesa do século XVI e na Didáctica da Literatura. Publicou O Bucolismo Português (Coimbra, 1988), Sátira e Lirismo no teatro de Gil Vicente (Coimbra, 1996), História Crítica da Literatura Portuguesa (dir. de Carlos Reis), Vol. II, "Humanismo e Renascimento" (Lisboa, 1999), Revisões de Gil Vicente (Coimbra/Braga, 2003) e A Literatura no Ensino Secundário (Porto, 2004). Foi co- Director de Biblos. Enciclopédia Verbo das Literaturas de Língua Portuguesa (Lisboa, 1999-2005).
