João Luís Gonçalves

João Luís Rodrigues Gonçalves was born in 1960 in the parish of Campanário, Ribeira Brava, Madeira Island.
He completed his secondary education at the Minor Seminary of Funchal.
He attended the Major Seminary of the Cathedral in Porto between 1978 and 1980, where he completed the second year of his Theology studies at the Institute of Human and Theological Sciences of Porto (ICHT).
He participated in the following United Nations missions in East Timor: in September 2001, in Dili, East Timor, he collaborated in a judicial training course for magistrates and public defenders.
He was a Mentor Prosecutor in Dili, within the UNDP (United Nations Development Programme), starting on May 20, 2002; from September 2002 to June 2003, he was an International Prosecutor for UNMISET (United Nations Mission in Support of East Timor), in the department of Serious Crime which investigated the crimes against humanity of the militia massacres committed in 1999.
Since September 2022, he has been Deputy Attorney General at the Regional Attorney General's Office in Lisbon.
