Jan Koolman

Nasceu e cresceu em Lübeck, Alemanha, na costa do mar Báltico. Na sua cidade natal, frequentou a escola secundária com ênfase humanística, o que influenciou sua formação. De 1963 a 1969, estudou Bioquímica na Universidade Eberhard-Karls, em Tübingen. Sob orientação do Prof. Peter Karlson, doutorou-se em Química na Universidade de Marburg, onde começou a trabalhar com a bioquímica de insetos e outros invertebrados. Em 1977, concluiu a livre-docência na área de medicina humana e em 1984 foi nomeado professor universitário. Professor Koolman tem interesse especial por endocrinologia bioquímica e didática aplicada à bioquímica. É casado com uma pedagoga.
