Nascido em Bissau, capital da Guiné, a 14 de Janeiro de 1931, filho de António Barbosa Carreira, historiador, e de Carmen Medina Carreira.
Este advogado e consultor fiscal tornou-se uma personalidade conhecida do grande público pela sua presença assídua na televisão, onde comentava assuntos da actualidade económica.
Faleceu no dia 3 de Julho de 2017, aos 85 anos, vítima de doença prolongada.
