Gilbert Strang

Gilbert Strang concluiu a graduação em Matemática no Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), nos Estados Unidos. Também estudou na University of Oxford, no Reino Unido, e, de volta à América, conquistou o título de Ph.D. pela University of California, em Los Angeles (UCLA). Retornando ao MIT, tornou-se professor e leciona na instituição desde 1970. A disciplina de Álgebra Linear, ministrada por ele, foi oferecida a milhares de estudantes. Tamanha dedicação, somada ao empenho em democratizar o tema pelo mundo, tornaram Gilbert Strang uma referência internacional. Além disso, a brilhante carreira lhe rendeu o Prémio Haimo, concedido pela Mathematical Association of America e o Prémio Su Buchin, outorgado pelo International Congress on Industrial and Applied Mathematics (ICIAM).
