É Professora Associada com Agregação na Universidade do Minho, onde foi Pró-Reitora entre 2009 e 2014. Ensina e desenvolve investigação no campo do Jornalismo no Departamento de Ciências da Comunicação e no CECS. É autora de dezenas de artigos científicos e de vários livros, entre os quais Jornalista: profissão ameaçada (Alêtheia Editores, 2015), Vinte Anos de Televisão Privada em Portugal (Guerra & Paz, 2012), A TV do Real (Minerva, 2008), A TV das Elites (Campo das Letras, 2007), A TV do Futebol (Campo das Letras, 2006) e O Telejornal e o Serviço Público (Minerva, 1999). É comentadora residente da RTP e colunista do Jornal de Notícias.
