Baudilio Mallón, estudou e doutorou-se na Universidade de Santiago de Compostela (1964-1973) e nela iniciou a sua vasta carreira universitária como professor (1969-1978). Foi catedrático de História Moderna nas universidades da Extremadura (1978-1979), Oviedo (1979-1994) e Corunha (1994-2007). A sua actividade de investigação iniciou-se na área da demografia histórica e na de História Rural da Galiza dos séculos XVI-XVIII, derivando depois para o estudo da sociedade e cultura, assuntos sobre os quais publicou livros e artigos em revistas especializadas e interveio em numerosos congressos nacionais e internacionais. É uma das maiores autoridades em História Moderna da Galiza.
