Albano Martins nasceu em 1930 na aldeia do Telhado (Fundão) e faleceu em 2018 em Vila Nova de Gaia. Licenciado em Filologia Clássica pela Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Lisboa foi professor na Universidade Fernando Pessoa, no Porto. Dedicou-se também, à tradução de poetas (gregos do período clássico, italianos, espanhóis e sul-americanos). Em 1998, foi-lhe atribuído o Grande Prémio de Tradução Literária, pela sua versão de "Canto Geral", de Pablo Neruda (Campo das Letras, 1998).
Tem colaborações, em prosa e verso, dispersas por numerosos jornais e revistas, nacionais e estrangeiros e os seus poemas estão traduzidos em diversas línguas.
