ABOUT THE AUTHOR

William Makepeace Thackeray

W. M. Thackeray was born in 1811 in Calcutta and studied at Cambridge. He made a career in journalism, before becoming the renowned author of The Adventures of Barry Lyndon, transposed to the cinema by Stanley Kubrick, and Vanity Fair, also adapted to the small and big screen. Known for his refined humorous vein, Thackeray died on Christmas Eve in 1863, leaving a legacy that is still largely undiscovered.
